Southern Seawater Desalination Plant

Supply of Precast Concrete Facade Panels

The WA Government new salt water desalination plant, the Southern Seawater Desalination Plant (SSDP), will provide a major new water source for WA. The plant is situated on Taranto Road, between Binningup and Mylaup, and water from the plant will be fed into the Integrated Water Supply Scheme. It will produce 50 gigalitres of potable water annually with a capacity to expand to 100 gigalitres per annum.

In February 2010 PERMAcast was awarded the main contract to manufacture, deliver and install over 1035 precast façade panels. The contract also involved grouting and sealing the panels. All panels were made using a S50 low heat concrete mix to meet durability requirements, with a design life of 100 years specified for the project.

We produced up to 200m2 a day and provided storage for over 450 panels in our yard prior to delivery and installation. With Permacast having access to over 250,000 m2 of storage, the construction crew did not have the problem of storing these products onsite. A total of 18,000m2 of panels were made, weighing of 8000 tonnes – all on time and on budget.

Permacast was proud to be involved in one of the largest precast contracts to be issued to local pre-casting firm.
